I'm Amazed

Well I have to say that the concert went well. We heard some great music, went to the port-o-pottie one to many times, ran into a friend or two and fell down the hill without spilling our drink. Ok, so we didn't fall down the hill, disaster head did. No, no, to my disappointment she didn't get hit in the head with a drumstick, but she did fall on her pancake and slid right down a hill. Very gracefully I might add again to my disappointment. Then we got into a heated debate with a complete stranger about God. He was an atheist. That was about how well it went. Sorry I don't have anything more interesting to report on the disaster prone but I think she read my blog before we left and decided that she needed to keep her pancake in line or else utter humiliation would occur. I'm AMAZED. So all that said, we had a fantastic time and you all need to be listening to some My Morning Jacket.

Concert

I am going to a concert tomorrow with the one who is a magnet for disaster. I am about 85% positive that she will get hit in the head by a drumstick . . . in a crowd of over 1000 people . . . in the very back . . . sitting down in the grass . . . while everyone else is standing up. Then we will get VIP because the drummer feels terrible. Yup, I'm predicting it to happen. I will let you know how it goes.

Ah-Ha

Although pretty much everything else that Ah-ha wrote bit the big one, "Take on Me" happens to be one of my favorite songs and videos of the 80's. Compared to all the stupid paint splashed backgrounds and cliched close-ups of the day, I can only imagine how much vagina straining they did to make this video. Well worth the strain in my opinion.

Pandora

I have to say, my co-worker is very handy. He is always coming to me with new, interesting and visually appealing sites. Although not to visually appealing, one of my favorites that he has introduced me to is Pandora. It's a mix between iTunes and general internet radio with a little twist. It's a great escape from your iTunes library when listening to the same songs for the last year starts to get old and gives you more control over song choice than internet radio. You get to create your own stations for free. All you do is pretty much start off with one of your favorite groups and Pandora automatically configures a group of songs that are within that genre. Even better, if you don't like the song that starts to play, you can give it a thumbs down click and it immediately stops and moves forward to another song. Beautiful. So for all of you windows users (bottom spanks) who have neglected to go and download iTunes, this is your best alternative. You sign up, for free, and every time you come back it automatically signs you back in and starts your saved station. You can create more than one station as well. Right now, I'm jammin to some Oasis, Travis, Coldplay and a few other greats. Give it a whirl. I don't think you will be disappointed.

The Kin

I just stumbled across a, so far, FANTASTIC band. They are called The Kin and they consist of two brothers from Adelaide, Australia. The harmonies are beautiful, the lyrics are deep and touching and to make a long story short, I could listen to their CD Rise and Fall, ALL DAY. I am a bit of a music connoisseur and if you read my "Death of MTV" post, you know that I am very picky and can only really tolerate all the other crap out there while I am working out. These guys are genuine, have a great sound and put my mind at ease when I listen. If I were at all a painter, this is what I would listen to as inspiration and for relaxing. Two of my favorite songs so far are Nowhere to Now-here and Abraham.

Jewel Gone Cuntray

Now, I have all of her CDs, but Jewel's most recent is probably not one that I will buy. Although there are a few songs that luckily I can purchase on iTunes, I will not be buying the whole thing. You can hear the old jewel in there, but the country soaked instrumental sort of ruins it all for me. There are only a few that don't have that sliding guitar and twang to them. I would have to give it only two and a half stars out of 5. Now, had she just been her same old folky self, I may think differently. Jewel has always sounded a bit on the country side but with her own unique touch. I think she took it a bit too far with this one. I hate it when singers push themselves into a different genre like that. Jessica Simpson has been doing a country album as well. I am anticipating that one something fierce; along with a bullet in the eyeball.

Anticipation

I have to say that I am quite excited about Coldplay's new album coming in June. In my personal opinion, Coldplay is one of those bands that will be completely timeless. This band puts together some of the most beautiful sounds and creates something meaningful and amazing to me. You hear a band like Coldplay and wonder "How in the hell can you call something like Korn, music?" I've never understood music that takes no effort like rap and hard-core metal. Mark says it's "Kill your mom-kill your dad" brainwashing music. I agree with that statement. I mean seriously, how hard can it be just to scream nothing into a microphone and blow out long-haired, devil finger throwing, head banging brains? How hard can it be to just stand in a studio and talk through some music (i.e. Yo, yo, yo, check it, My name is sam and I eat green eggs and ham.) Do you see my point here. I just don't get it. Granted some of the "rap" songs and "hard-core metal" songs may actually have meaning somewhere but I just refuse to try and see it.

Coldplay puts on one hell of a show as well. When you hear their songs, you hear their songs. You don't hear terrible voices and music that have been digitally altered. You here pure AWESOMENESS!! Mark and I went to a concert a few years ago and it left us in awe wanting to scream "ENCORE" all night long. I didn't want it to end. If they come on HD-Music Live, we watch it. If a song comes on the radio, I turn it up as loud as I can without my ears falling off. There is some music out there that just hurts to hear making you want to jab your eye out with a spoon. There are a few cds that I have that cause my finger to go into "GET AWAY FROM THIS SONG" spasms. Coldplay is certainly not one of them. The way they create songs somehow puts you into a certain mood; mellow, content, hopeful. I'm jumping out of my pants from the anticipation.

Don't try to mentally picture me jumping out of my pants. Not cool.
