Gym Etiquette

I have to work out. I have to share the equipment. If someone needs to work in a set, I am more than happy to allow them that 30 seconds of my rest to do so. So why then don't other people do the same? Maybe it's just the snobby atmosphere. Maybe someone is afraid that I am going to run off with the lat pull machine. Maybe I stink? I don't know but it really ticks me off. These people at this gym have NO IDEA what proper gym etiquette is. Gym etiquette has officially made it onto my list of pet peeves.
Yesterday when I got ready to lift, I was in a good mood. I had just pushed out 2 miles and was on my way to a much needed workout session. I get over to the leg press and find that some turd has left about 135 pounds on each side. I can't push that up with my bad knees. This just chaps my hide. Obviously it was a guy and I don't know why but for some reason they don't think that girls use this stuff therefore it's not a big deal. Well I use the stuff and it's a big deal because I have about 7 other exercises to do on my arms, and having to pick up three 45lb plates from each side, practically sitting on the floor, doesn't really help me time wise or back wise. There is a sheet of laminated paper sitting just above the machine that says "Kindly re-rack your weights when you are finished". Read much people? I don't care if you have to go do bench presses and then come back to leg press, suck it up and unload! I'm not going to sit around and wait for you to finish your power set when my one set of leg presses will take me less time than it will take you to pop a vein out of your head bench pressing 300lbs five times!

I finally get over it and move on, kindly, by the way, unloading and re-racking my weights when I'm finished. I'm on my last exercise of my first set; sitting calf raises. I walk over only to find two big fat 45's racked on it! What the crap? Who is out to torture me today?! I have to use one 45 anyway so I unload one. As I am doing that, some guy taps me and asks me to put it back when I'm done because he's using the machine. Annoyingly I nod and he goes back to his bench press. Okay, WHAT? I'm sorry, you must be the incredible hulk Mr. Jerk Face, because I wasn't aware that you can use two machines at once! The nerve of the guy. He wasn't nice about it either. He acted as if I was going to ruin his entire workout. Selfish, bald, vein popper! Give me a break! Is it really that big of a deal?!
My answer, no, it's not. I'm a sweet innocent girl struggling to lift a 45lb plate off of a machine and all you can do is tell me to put it back? How about some help and smile and a kind explanation. Would that strain your workout to much? Huh, HUH, HUH?!!!!! Of course, because you probably think I'm feminist because I'm lifting weights and you would be wasting your breath and time being nice.

A few days before this incident I asked a lady, stretching on the standing calf raises, if I could work in a set. She looked at me and said "Actually, I have one set left." Well old snotty lady, let me educate you on GYM ETIQUETTE!!!!!!

1. YOU DO NOT STRETCH ON THE MACHINE. THAT IS WHAT THE STRETCHING AREA IS FOR.

2. YOUR WORKOUT WILL NOT BE RUINED IF SOMEONE PUSHES OUT 10 REPS WHILE YOU STRETCH ON THE LEG CURL MACHINE!

3. THE LEG CURLS, LEG EXTENSIONS, AB CRUNCH MACHINE OR ANY OTHER MACHINE WITH A SEAT, FOR THAT MATTER, ARE NOT RESTING AREAS. SITTING ON THEM FOR 10 MINUTES ACTING EXHAUSTED AFTER LIFTING 10 POUNDS IS NOT KOSHER GET A HOME GYM IF YOU NEED TO REST!!!!

4. DE-RACK!!! FOR THE LOVE OF PETE AND MY BACK, PLEASE DE-RACK YOUR DEDGUM WEIGHTS!!! I'M NOT THAT STRONG AND I'M SUPER IMPATIENT WHEN I WORK OUT.

5. OH, AND TELL YOUR ANNOYING 11 YEAR-OLD THAT WHEN PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO WORK OUT SHE BETTER BE CAREFUL. THERE IS A LOT OF ADRENALINE PUMPING AND THAT 10TH PURPOSEFULLY OBNOXIOUS HELLO AND THEN JUMPING OVER THE WOODEN WALL LANDING 5 INCHES FROM MY FACE WHILE I AM DOING SITUPS COULD QUICKLY LOSE YOU AN 11 YEAR-OLD!

I'm not perfect. I'm not always kind, but when I am at the gym I recognize that other people are there, trying to get in that workout before they head home to be husband, wife, mother and father. When I workout out I try to make it easier and quicker for me and others. That's all I'm asking. As red faced as I will get and as shaky and nervous as I would become, I think next time I'm going to step up and tell that new person that, me doing 10 reps isn't really going to get in their way SO BACK OFF FOR 30 SECONDS DUDE!
