I am a graphic designer by day. I love doing what I do and wish that I could do more. I often get asked by friends and family to do small things like invitations and announcements. I recently got asked by my friend Merny (Maren) to do some graduation announcements for her hubbers. I sort of followed the same idea as the baby invitations that I did a few weeks back. I love the style and it seems to work well with my brain. So here is a view of the invite. Let me know your thoughts, comments, or critique.

alright, here's my critique:
ReplyDeleteThe overall weight of the design and idea is good but needs a little tweaking......
1. you should probably only use 2 fonts....3 max. you can use different weights of those fonts but when you start using more than 3 the eye gets really confused.
2. the "Andrew...." font does not fit this design.
3. the "2010" emboss doesn't fit this design either.
4. I would make the hat more flat than using a gradient. The gradient doesn't fit the style you are going for.
Well you asked for it so there's your critique .... good start ... let me know if you tweak it some, I'd like to see it.

I don't know enough about graphic design to offer any criticism. I think it looks great!!
ReplyDeleteI think I disagree about the Andrew font comment. I think it creates an interesting divisional line across the center of the space, and while it doesn't match the other fonts, it matches the textures in the background. I might like a different font better, but I still like it with the current font. :)
I know I'm a little late on this, but ....
ReplyDeleteI'm a graphic designer and Alans comment about the fonts is correct, but needs an added comment. This invitation is announcing the graduation of someone and their name is hard to read and broken up. It does not match the image, design, or the texture. You also need to watch your kerning.
From the looks of it, you have around 6 fonts in this (or you warped some text, either way, its a big design no no). It doesn't make for a cohesive design and it throws of your hierarchy.
I can see where you're going with this, but it's not quite there yet.
